Anna-Fresno State Masters in Social Work GraduateI met Lupe, now Dr. Govea, in the summer of 2001. She was assigned to be a group mentor in the University summer program I enrolled in. The summer program's focus was on students who wanted to pursue careers in the health field. As a group mentorLupe immediately made a connection with each of her students. She was always positive and motivated each student, myself included, to strive for our professional goals. Lupe continued to be a great influence/mentor to me during my college years. More than a mentor, she became a friend and one of my strongest supporters. She has also become one of my role models. Lupe is a Latina woman who is a pillar in her community and her dedication to her goals, family and values continue to have a great influence on me. Because of her influence in my life I continue to pursue my own career goals. I earned a Master's degree in Social Work, I am in a rewarding field, and currently pursuing my LCSW certification.

Yomi-Yale Medical School StudentI am an incoming non-traditional M1 student at Yale School of Medicine. I received my first degree, a PharmD, from University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. With the help of Nancy from DeepTok, I did very well on the interview trail. Of the 14 top 30 programs I applied to, I received 12 interviews. Of the 10 interviews i went to, I received 9 acceptances and 1 waitlist. When I started the application process to medical school, I connected with a first year medical student at Stanford I knew through my cousin. She connected me with Nancy, her classmate, who is also a Pharmacist. Initially my heart was set on going to Emory but I knew the application process was competitive and thought it would be wise to not put all my eggs in one basket. As a non-traditional applicant, I needed advice on how to approach the AMCAS application. I had questions like how many schools should I apply to, which schools should I apply to, and what experiences should I include on my application. Nancy gave a lot of valuable advice pulling from her direct experience as a medical school applicant and her prior role as faculty involved in PharmD school admissions. After I pieced my application together, she helped proofread key elements. Later, when I started receiving interviews, she provided encouragement and tips that helped me stand out amongst the crowd.

Diego-UCSF Pharmacy StudentI cannot begin to express how grateful I am to have Dr. Maria M. Rivas as a mentor. I still remember the day I met her in the year 2013; she asked if I had either of the two iPhone applications, Lexicomp or Epocrates to aid my understanding for certain medications and their dosing. Since then, she has been providing priceless advice and guidance to make my path towards becoming a pharmacist a little easier. Even throughout her busy schedule as a student and now as a licensed pharmacist, she finds the time to meet with me whenever I need her support. Mentors who are truly invested in their mentees and motivated by their success are a rare commodity, but I am beyond glad to have one with Dr. Maria M. Rivas."

Adrienne-UCSF Pharmacy StudentI've known Maria since my first year of pharmacy school at UCSF and she has always been there for me when I needed her. She's very supportive, encouraging and full of positive energy. Whenever I feel like I'm going off course and hitting a wall, she's always around to help me get back on track. She inspires me to keep pushing through. I couldn't have asked for a better mentor!

Abraham-San Diego State Kinesiology StudentI just graduated from high school and will be attending San Diego State University in the Fall of 2015. Maria has mentored me for most of my life. Before I was under her mentorship I did not see college in my future or even thought of pursuing higher education. After her academic and personal advice to help me better myself I soon saw college as a possibility. I am now going to SDSU because of Maria’s mentorship
